Sanctuary Care Fund. For rabbits whose foster home is (probably) their forever home.
A sanctuary rabbit is a bunny who has been deemed "unadoptable" and is moved into a permanent shelter situation with an Alabama EARS foster parent.
Sometimes a serious medical issue is the reason. Sometimes it is because no on is interested in adopting the bunny for unknown reasons. Once we take a rabbit into our care (and therefore our hearts) that rabbit is with us until he is adopted. If he is never adopted he remains with us to live out his natural life.
The decision to move a rabbit into sanctuary care is not taken lightly. To remove one of our foster rabbits from the adoptable rabbits page is always a difficult decision. We so desperately want every rabbit to have a forever home where h/she is the rabbit center of a household, and removing a rabbit from the adoptable rabbits page makes that almost impossible.
Almost.
Even when we move a rabbit to sanctuary care, we never quite give up hope that the perfect home will come along--perhaps one experienced with special needs rabbits. If you are one of those homes we hope you'll consider a long-term "fostering" arrangement where EARS pays the medical bills (if any) and you lavish one of these bunnies with all the love and attention that they deserve.
To learn more how you could become a long-term foster parent for one of the rabbits listed on this page please email us at info@alabamaears.org.
